FEATURED LUMPY RIDGE CLIMBS

Batman and Robin (5.6)

Batman and Robin is one of Lumpy Ridges most accessible and classic moderate climbs. This massive 600’ tower of granite offers a little bit of face climbing, a little bit of crack climbing and stunning views into the Rocky Mountain National Park and the majestic Longs Peak from atop a large flat pinnacle with nothing harder than 5.6 climbing! This route is suitable for all climbers who are willing to put in the hiking and climbing effort. Usually done in about 6 hours from car to car, there is a 1.5-mile approach hike, 600’ of sustained 5.6 climbing, a photogenic scene from the peak of the pinnacle and a well deserved lunch provided back at the base of the climb!

White Whale (5.7)

White Whale is another of Lumpy Ridges many, many classic climbs. A featured slab with a small roof traverse leads to a wonderful seated belay underneath the 5.7 hand crack above, the money pitch! Conquering this long, featured hand crack leads to another comfortable belay before continuing up easier terrain onto a flat view point into the Rockies with an easy walk-off decent. Good footwork makes this climb casual and non-strenuous.

Pitches: 3

Osiris (5.7)

Much harder and more strenuous than White Whale. The first pitch chimney (rated 5.6) makes you earn the wonderful crux—twin finger cracks through a bulge.

Pitches: 4

Pear Buttress (5.8)

Pear Buttress has it all. Face climbing, crack climbing, comfortable belays, traverses, a large 5.7 roof finish, all this plus it gets you close to one of the highest points on Lumpy Ridge! This point allows clarity of many prominent features in the part, “The Diamond”, a very daunting wall at 13,000’ on Longs Peak becomes visible and a clear understanding of how it gets its name becomes clear. Very popular and for good reason, many will tell you that it is unquestionably the best route on all of Lumpy Ridge. If you can climb 5.8, put this on your tick list, you will not be disappointed!

Pitches: 5-6

Backflip (5.9)

If you’re looking for a long, sustained moderate route, Backflip should be a consideration. Most of the climbing in these 4 or 5 pitches is 5.8 or 5.9 climbing. Thin dihedrals, lie-backs, an under-cling traverse and dispersed finger cracks are some of the main features of this route. The wandering nature of this route and pure exposure gives you a true sensation of what adventure climbing encapsulates and doesn’t end at the top! Let’s begin navigating the descent together by rappelling off of a massive tree and wandering down a labyrinth of rock.

J-Crack (5.9)

One of the most sought after climbs at Lumpy Ridge – a must-do crack climb with a friction crux on the third pitch.

Kor’s Flake (5.9)

A moderate classic on the largest cliff in the sub-alpine. Kor’s offers diverse climbing and frightening exposure. The fourth pitch is superb.

Mainliner (5.9)

A fantastic route, with crux moves involving a wide stem off opposing corners. It’s another route featuring diverse climbing—from thin edges, to fingers, to hand and fist jams – a spectacular rock climb.
